Red Sox Continue To Struggle Out West

 800-698-2322 / 508-473-8929

After splitting a four-game series with the lowly Seattle Mariners over the weekend, the Red Sox took their game a little further south to face the Oakland Athletics last night, and the result was not in their favor as they lost 6-1.

Former Red Sox Josh Reddick and Brandon Moss homered against their former teammate Daisuke Matsuzaka and A’s pitcher Jarrod Parker threw 6 2/3 sharp innings to knock Boston to a 2-3 west coast trip thus far.

The beginning of the game looked promising as Daniel Nava led off with a double and Dustin Pedroia followed with an RBI single two batters into the game. But Parker was masterful in keeping the Sox off balance, allowing six hits and striking out three.

Seth Smith opened the four-run second inning for the A’s with a double, followed by a Derek Norris walk. Moss hit the first pitch he saw that at-bat over the right-field fence for his ninth homer in 22 games with Oakland.

The two homers hit by Oakland kept their home run streak going at 13 games, their longest streak since doing it in 14 consecutive games early in the 2004 season.
Pedroia finished going 2-for-4 and Clayton Mortensen, who came in for Dice-K in the second inning, pitched five innings in relief, allowing only two hits and one run, giving the Red Sox bullpen a nice rest.
